Dr Michael Egerton MBBS, FRACS
General Surgeon
Dr Michael Egerton attained a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1979. He first came to Toowoomba as a medical student in 1978 before returning in 1980 as a junior doctor. Following his undergraduate studies, Dr Egerton went on to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1986.
Dr Egerton is a qualified general surgeon with many years of experience performing endoscopic procedures. He is recognised by the Conjoint Committee for Recognition in Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) to perform colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures. Dr Egerton is also currently recertified with the GESA Colonoscopy Recertification program, as required by the federal ACSQHC Colonoscopy Clinical Care Standards.
His clinical interests include:
• Gastroscopies
• Colonoscopies
• Breast cancer surgery
• Colorectal and bowel cancer surgery
• Upper GI surgery
• Endocrine surgery
Dr Egerton currently holds several clinical positions in Toowoomba; he is a Visiting Medical Officer at St Vincent’s and St Andrew’s Hospitals; his private rooms are located at the Downs Specialist Centre in East Toowoomba. He was Director of Surgery at Toowoomba Base Hospital from 1986 to 1991. Dr Egerton was one of the initiators of laparoscopic general surgical interventions in Toowoomba - he also helped other surgeons to implement these minimally invasive procedures in Stanthorpe, Kingaroy and Warwick.
Outside of work, Dr Egerton enjoys horse riding, road cycling, tennis and swimming. He also enjoys breeding Angus cattle and has established a truffiere (truffle orchard). Dr Egerton and his wife, a General Practitioner and breast care physician, have three children and three grandchildren.
